The May meeting is, by tradition, our pub quiz night. And, following this year's trend of nothing quite going to plan (but throwing up serendipitous opportunities), it was held in the church hall, though without our lovely MC Emmie. However, for the second month running, our valient VP, Lisa, stepped up and was marvelous in this role, as well as having set the questions!
We had 4 tables of members, visitors and old friends, who were put through their intellectual paces with rounds including women's sports, cakes, Catherine's Australian themed pictures, and the new favourite: Moth or Goth?
Eventually, We Drink and We Know Things (Yvette, Holly and Tim) narrowly made it through to the winning spot through and collected their hamper of goodies, with the prize for second place going to We are in the WI (a box of Black Magic). As is now customary, the last placed team was awarded The Gloomy (Wooden) Spoon of Doom, and second to last (or third as it is also known) received a packet of prawn cocktail crisps (names redacted to protect the innocent!).
Natalie helped out with cocktails to raise funds for Solace, and where would a quiz night be without a raffle? Members and visitors were also able to buy jewellery which had been kindly donated by Lily, a good friend to GVWI - this segues nicely into next month's meeting which will be upcycling jewellery to make a strung item (necklace/bracelet/glasses chain), with Leila. It will take place in the hall on Wednesday 21 June. So bring your unwanted and broken jewellery (orphaned earrings often make pretty pendants) and be inspired to give them a new lease of life.
